Start with the equation
3x - 7 = 20
Step 1: Add 7 to both sides
3x - 7 = 20
+7 +7
3x = 27
Step 2: Divide both sides by 3
3x = 27
÷3 ÷3
x = 9
Answer
x = 9
Check
3(9) - 7 = 20
27 - 7 = 20
20 = 20 ✓
